Okay, so I slacked off this past week. I went on vacation with 5 girlfriends and ignored my laptop. Hey, can you blame me? But I’m not leaving you high and dry. What does that saying mean, anyway? So I decided to re-post one of my previous blogs which is similar to what next week’s blog will feature. Except it will be entirely different. Confused? I know how short some people’s attention spans are (not that yours is) and I’d hate to make that awful mistake of boring you with redundant material. Only I’m doing that this week, aren’t I? Hum…you have a point there. In that case, I’m relying on your poor memory not to recall this February 2013 blog. So sit back, relax, get your cup-o-joe, maybe a nice danish and enjoy No Place Like Home.

Don’t Be Stupid
On Wednesday my friend Sharon turned 58. For this I’m grateful for two reasons:
a) she’s like a sister and, 2) she saved my life.
Now don’t get me wrong; Sharon didn’t give me her bone marrow or anything. Not that she wouldn’t if I needed it. No, she saved me in a more adventurous way.
As you know if you’re a faithful reader, I once blogged about our rafting trip, Who You Callin’ an Adrenaline Junkie? But this time I’m writing about it from a I’m-grateful-to-be-alive perspective.

Chipping Away At My Bucket List
My bucket list seems to get longer the older I get. Isn’t that always the way? So much to do, so little time….
Anyway, visiting more of the good old USA is on that list. So a couple weeks ago I headed to Tennessee for a girlfriend getaway in Memphis, Nashville and the Smoky Mountains. I have no horror stories to share about what happened on the plane (for once) since Sharon and I had a row to ourselves. Off to a splendid start, wouldn’t you say?
If you’ve never visited Tennessee, why not? It’s quite unique. Memphis at the beginning of June was practically deserted. The streets and cafes were almost empty at times. No crowds in the honky tonk joints along Beale Street so we had our pick of the musicians in every bar and cafe. Even the marching ducks at the Peabody Hotel had relatively little fanfare. Hooray for us. Continue reading
Partners in Crime
Thanksgiving began with a phone call to my friend Sue.
Me: Just a heads up I may need you later today, so keep your phone nearby.
Sue: What’s up?
Me: You’re my one phone call I’m allowed from jail. Oh, and don’t forget to remove the turkey from your oven before coming to bail me out.
Sue: Okay, will do.
You may be able to deduce from this conversation that Sue knows me well enough to realize one of these days I’ll be arrested for helping animals, probably cats, and if that means doing something illegal in the process, so be it.
A Leap of Faith
So I’ve been writing my Sunday blog for exactly a year now and I’ve learned something: I made a mistake when I started. And what might that be? Well, for some reason I thought I needed to post 5 blogs all at once to kick off Now Don’t Get Me Wrong. But I was wrong.
Turns out literally 10 people saw the 4 blogs following my first post. I presumed folks would be so enthralled with my writing, they’d read beyond the first one. Again, wrong. If you weren’t one of the devoted 10, I forgive you. Now here’s your chance to redeem yourself…
While my three friends and I huddled on the cold steel floor of the single engine Cessna, I struggled to remember what possessed me to want to hurl myself from an airborne metal tube.
Now don’t get me wrong; I’m not crazy. At least I think I’m not. But still, I seriously questioned my sanity while checking my parachute pack for the tenth time. My curiosity was not based on its technical construction but simply to confirm that it was still on my back. Continue reading
