Margo and Pam

Margo and Pam after a marathon

(A continuation from last week’s post from 2013)

Last week, I left you hanging with my tale of Pam and Margo, my exercise-fiend friends. If you didn’t catch that one, I recommend you go back and read it so you’ll know where I’m heading with this one.

I tried to convey just how talented these gals are: they can (and do) literally run for hours and barely break a sweat. They leave swimmers in the wake of their powerful strokes and pass other bicyclists in the dust with hardly any effort. In other words, I’m jealous. Continue reading →

Steady as She Goes

Every muscle in my body is screaming. They’re not at all happy with me today. That’s because I started running again after a long lay-off from a knee injury and general laziness. Actually, running is too strong a word for what I actually do. It’s more like a slow jog. Some might even consider it meandering.

I’ve always been a slow runner. Even when I was training for a couple sprint triathlons with my bionic friends, Pam and Margo, I never became faster over the months. They assured me if I kept it up and did interval training I’d get quicker. Didn’t happen. A million years ago I was a miler on my high school track team. But I wasn’t fast then either. I think I’m programmed for endurance. Except for now, when my endurance is on hiatus.

Anyway, in school I had absolutely no talent for running and never practiced except when the team did. And even then I spent more time gabbing with friends than actually doing any running. It was more a social event for me than anything. Still, I could keep up with the pack for the first half mile but that’s where they lost me. I think my fastest time was a dismal 7.5 minute mile. Talk about embarrassing.

It Pays to Know People in High Places

I have an announcement to make……..I’m in love!heart

Now before you get all excited, let me clarify: it’s not with a man. And no, it’s not a woman either. And although I’m passionate about animals, a 4-legged creature is not what has captured my heart. Actually, it’s a state; Colorado, to be precise.

Now don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying I don’t love California anymore. That will never happen. I’m a Californian through and through. But after a recent first visit to Boulder, Breckenridge and Vail, call me…smitten

A Woman on a Mission

I’m on a mission to get back into shape. Not to say I ever WAS in shape, but at least I could spot a muscle or two amidst this mass of droopy flesh. Locating a muscle on me today is like looking for sunken treasure. You know it’s under there somewhere. But I have to say I miss my muscles, so I’m on a mission to find them again.Last year when I hurt my knee, I stopped playing tennis, jogging and working out. Now don’t get me wrong; I don’t particularly love going to the gym but I know it’s a necessary evil. I’m hoping to someday do situps without moaning like a woman in labor. Continue reading →
